About Me
A few years ago, I found a letter written by 13 year-old me to my cousin that never got sent for some reason. I mostly talked about cute boys and soccer practice, but there was one line that really struck me. It read “I just want to see the world.” Even as a young girl, the desire to travel was always there, and as I grew older I made travel a priority. I got my first passport when I was 21, and I’ve been to over 20 countries since.
That may not seem like a lot compared to other travelers out there, but I was getting my doctorate degree and then went straight into full time work. I did quit my job to travel for a year in 2020, but COVID happened and that trip was cancelled. Basically all my travels have been during normal vacation time, and I think it’s totally possible to have amazing experiences without quitting your job.
For example, I snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, drove around the whole country of Iceland, and made it to Japan all while working a full time job. I also love sprinkling in trips closer to home as a way to travel more while still working. I’ve been to Turks and Caicos, spots all over California, and did city breaks in places like NYC and DC with just a few days off work.
Every time I go somewhere new, I learn a beautiful lesson about myself and the world, and that’s what keeps me hooked. Travel has made me a more compassionate, understanding, better version of myself–it reminds me of the good there is out there. I want others to be moved like I’ve been and that’s what inspires me to write about my travels.
I hope I excite others to visit a certain destination or have a life-changing, expansive experience. My goal is to get people daydreaming about travel and then convert those dreams into reality!

I’m currently looking to connect with people in the Midwest to write for local publications and have experiences relevant to this area (or places easy to visit from here).
I specialize in 5-day getaways, solo female travel, and bucket list trips (mostly in the mid-range price point), so I’m also interested in anything that falls into one of those categories.
My Caribbean articles are some of my best performing on my site. If you want to collaborate on Caribbean-based content, I’d love to hear from you 🙂
You can reach me via email: allison [at] thedaydreamernextdoor [dot] com if you’d like to discuss working together.
