Last year Jasna and I bought tickets to see Britney Spears in Las Vegas. We were beyond excited to plan the ultimate girls weekend, so we booked a stay at the Cosmopolitan to get those Sex and the City/Carrie Bradshaw vibes. Then a couple months before our trip, I got an email saying Britney had canceled her residency! We were super bummed but already had the hotel and tickets to another show, so we decided to go anyways.
I’m definitely not the biggest fan of Las Vegas but somehow this was my fifth time visiting. I really did not have high expectations and left most of the planning to Jasna. She came through with the perfect itinerary for a girls weekend and said she wanted to spend most of our time exploring the Arts District. I didn’t even know Vegas had an arts district, but I started to get more excited because it sounded way more like my scene in comparison to all the clubs and binge drinking on the strip.
Here’s what we got up to and then I’ll post all the photos below 🙂
We made a road trip out of it instead of flying, which started by fueling up at Better Buzz in Encinitas, stopping for lunch at Peggy Sue’s, and taking photos at Seven Magic Mountains.
We got dinner in the arts district on our first night at a popular Italian restaurant called Esther’s Kitchen. While we waited the 2 hours for our seat (Esther’s Kitchen was poppin), we drank some craft beers at Hop Nuts Brewing.
On Saturday we headed to Fremont Street (a.k.a. Old Vegas) and stopped into Carson Kitchen for a tapas-style lunch which was so delicious! We walked from there to the arts district to explore more in the daytime. On the way there we happened to pass Graceland Wedding Chapel. Once back in the arts district, we did some browsing at thrift stores then grabbed a couple cocktails.
Saturday night was all about seeing Beatles Love Cirque du Soleil which I highly recommend to any Beatles fans out there. It wasn’t the most acrobatically impressive Cirque I’ve been to, but the way they incorporated the music made for a great show. In my opinion, seeing a Cirque Du Soleil performance is a must when visiting Las Vegas.
We had one more artsy thing on our agenda before driving back to San Diego and that was seeing the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art. I never really thought about the art scene in Las Vegas, but adding these things to our agenda made our time much more enjoyable. It ended up being the perfect girls weekend!
