Welcome to On•the•Move Musings: a weekly-update-series where I reflect on my time exploring the globe; a place to record all the little details from travel that, despite being so special, my pigeon brain will likely forget; a space to show gratitude for where life’s daydreams have taken me; a few moments to stop and write during the chaos of long term travel. I’ll be posting every Friday (hopefully!) to share some good vibes and wanderlust before we head into the weekend.
Musings
Ever since I was young, I told myself I was bad at writing. I don’t know why because I don’t think anyone else ever made me feel that way. Nonetheless, that narrative was in my head from a young age. I avoided writing any way possible, especially in college, when I decided to pursue a highly scientific degree that only required one English class. I think I told myself I was bad at writing when, in reality, writing was just challenging. I’d always become frustrated that I couldn’t express my thoughts into perfectly translated words. So I avoided it with the excuse I wasn’t good enough to write. As I approach my 30s and embark on the adventure of a lifetime, I’m ready for the challenges that writing will bring to my life. I want to write as much as possible throughout this journey, and these weekly updates will give me the chance to practice regularly in a casual way. I hope you’ll follow along, and I also hope you’ll feel inspired to do something you’ve been too afraid to do for whatever reason. Here’s to nurturing my love affair with words and the world.
So Where in the World am I?
Right now I am in Indiana… but I’m heading off to a new country tonight! This country is not going to be easy, but I can’t wait to see what I learn and experience in the process. Any guesses where I’m going? Here’s a clue that’s probably not much help: I have a 3-hour layover in Munich.
Currently Loving
I have been binging a lot of tv shows while wrapping up work. Some favorites include Peaky Blinders, Fleabag, Insecure, Queer Eye, Terrace House, and Jack Whitehall: Travels with my Father. I would highly recommend them all, but especially Queer Eye if you need some feel-good vibes. There’s nothing better than the messages of love and acceptance they spread. It’s kind of similar to why I want to travel and see the world. It makes you realize we are all the same. (Plus the guys are hilarious and so fab.)
Challenges/Triumphs
Oh my goodness I cannot believe I pulled off moving out of my apartment. It was so much work and I felt alone throughout most of it. Actually, I felt really alone until I thought about it more and realized I wasn’t. So many people showed up for me. Family helped me make goodwill runs and pack and get stuff home. Coworkers took things off my hands and made me feel so loved and appreciated when I left. Friends brought me breakfast and lunch when my kitchen was empty 🙂 The moving process was a challenge and triumph all in one, but I did it. I also had support from friends back home who were always there when I needed– so thank you to everyone who helped me!
In Case You Missed It
I quit my job to take time off to travel! Here are a few posts that go into more detail about why.
