Welcome to On•the•Move Musings: a weekly-update-series where I reflect on my time exploring the globe; a place to record all the little details from travel that, despite being so special, my pigeon brain could likely forget; a space to show gratitude for where life’s daydreams have taken me; a few moments to stop and write during the chaos of long term travel. I’ll be posting every Friday to share some good vibes and wanderlust before we head into the weekend!
Musings
Hello from Monteverde, Costa Rica! I’ll be spending 37 days in Costa Rica and Panama, countries #15 & 16 for me 🙂 It’s been low-key so far with my days spent soaking up the sunshine, reading a lot, and sleeping a lot. I did go out and explore when I was in La Fortuna. I went on a nature walk around Arenal Volcano and learned a bunch about local plants and animals. Did you know that coffee arabica is the only kind of coffee allowed here? All other species are illegal. And that the trees sloths eat from contain sugar and THC, which might explain why sloths always look like they’re smiling? haha. After the hike, we headed to a natural hot spring and spent about an hour soaking in the warm, volcanic water drink in hand and mud mask on face. I’m feeling grateful that I get to spend so much time in such a beautiful country and look forward to what else I’ll learn and do along the way.
Currently Loving
I have been loving the sodas here (small restaurants that serve traditional Costa Rican food at a very low cost). My go-to meal has been casado de pescado which is a plate of grilled fish served with rice, beans, salad, vegetables, and plantains. In the 5 days since I’ve been in Costa Rica, I’ve eaten at 3 sodas already! Each meal has cost between $5 and $8–such a steal and so good for my budget.
Triumphs
I’m such a baby when it comes to cold water, but the showers here rarely have warm water since it’s so hot and humid outside. I’m proud of myself for taking cold showers without screaming when I get in! Haha it’s the little things…
Words
“The sprawling canvases are compelling, but not easy to digest. She stares at each one for a long time, struggling to make aesthetic sense of something that, much like a human life or the future before her, she suspects might not make any sense at all. They’re just too big, too beautiful, too hard to take in all at once.”
Castle of Water by Dane Huckelbridge (which is a book I devoured in 2 days and highly recommend!)
Very nice enjoy yourself.
